Cefard Edward Wood
(September 6, 1937 - August 27, 2009)

Mr. Cefard Edward Wood, Age 71, of Cedartown passed away Thursday, August 27, 2009. He was born on September 6, 1937 in Haralson County to the late Alfred Monroe Wood and Sallie Azilee Garner Wood.

Mr. Wood was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown for over 33 years. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, General Officer, and Coordinator for the preschool class for birth – three year old classes. Mr. Wood was also a R.A. Leader, an usher, and a member of Brotherhood and Brothers in Action. He also was a Family Life Center volunteer.

Mr. Wood served as Secretary for the Board of Trustees and was instrumental in the relocation to the Buchanan City Square and restoration of Little Creek’s One-Room School House in Haralson County. He was a 1955 graduate of Steadman High School. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army. He attended Berry College and Georgia State. He was employed with Fulton National Bank for 25 years. He was retired from the Rome Coca-Cola Company after 26 years of service. Until his illness in 2008, he worked part-time in the office of Sullins Enterprise.

Mr. Cefard Wood is preceded in death by parents, Rev. and Mrs. Monroe Wood; brothers, Ralph, Hoyt, and Carlton Wood and infant brother; sisters, Zera Mize, Florence Williams, and infant Gertrude Wood; and nephew, Johnny Williams.

Mr. Cefard Wood is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Anne Moore Wood, whom he married on June 21, 1969; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Douglas and Miranda Wood; son, Michael Wood; daughter, LeAnne Wood Shelton; grandchildren, Chaz and Braden Shelton and Luke, Sam, and Sara Kate Wood; sisters, Inez Wood Chandler and Theo Wood Waddell; brothers, Euzeal Wood and wife Chris; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Mize, David & Trish Moore; sister-in-law, Faye Wood. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mr. Cefard Edward Wood will be conducted Sunday, August 30, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Taylor and Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The interment will take place in the family plot at Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery in Haralson County. Larry Dooley, Glen Frasier, Rick Smith, Lamar Wright, Larry Tolbert, John Holbrooks, Mark Sullins, and David Sullins will serve as pallbearers. The grandchildren, Chaz and Braden Shelton and Luke, Sam, and Sara Kate Wood will serve as honorary pallbearers along with Mr. Henderson Woody, Deacons of First Baptist Church, Ushers of First Baptist, and former and present employees of Rome Coca-Cola Company.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted, however, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Children’s Ministry or First Baptist Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 720, 101 N. College St., Cedartown, GA 30125 or Heyman Hospice at Floyd, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162-0163.

The Olin L. Gammage and Sons Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Mr. Cefard Edward Wood.
